General

Ms. Lowry has represented individuals and businesses throughout the State of Texas.  Her primary area of practice is personal injury defense, premises liability, products liability, and general liability.  She has worked on complex matters involving product liability, toxic torts, environmental, class actions and commercial disputes, including antitrust and labor and employment issues. In addition, Gerry has experience with industrial processes, construction and heavy equipment. Her product liability defense work has included cases involving medical products such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, contraceptive therapies, anesthetics, latex gloves and OTC products. She has also defended product liability matters involving chemicals, saws, pumps, valves, motors, ladders, wheels, tires and automobiles. Her toxic tort work has included silica, asbestos and benzene exposure cases.

Ms. Lowry has extensive trial experience, being named in 2015 as a Trial Ace (top 50 litigators in the US) by Law 360. She has directed multiple bellwether trial teams in difficult jurisdictions across the country, and has tried approximately fifty cases in venues such as Jefferson County, Nueces County, Matagorda County, Brazoria County and the Southern District of Texas. She has also represented Fortune 100 companies in various venues across the country. She has been admitted Pro Hac Vice in numerous state and federal courts, including courts in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Louisiana, Nevada and Connecticut.

Through her extensive experience in product liability, environmental, mass torts, class actions and personal injury work, Ms. Lowry has developed specialized knowledge and resources in key medical and scientific fields including cardiology, neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, endocrinology, and orthopedic surgery. She also has expertise in matters involving, toxicology, epidemiology, biomechanics and engineering.

Representative engagements include:

  • Representing multiple major pharmaceutical companies as coordinating counsel and as national team leader in Multi-District Litigation for large national pharmaceutical dockets.
  • Managing large national docket of toxic tort cases for multiple Fortune 500 clients across various jurisdictions.
  • Directing national Sales & Marketing team for defense of major pharmaceutical litigation involving MDL and statewide coordinated proceedings with 10,000+ cases.
  • Leading a team winning a pivotal preemption decision in a Texas coordinated proceeding concerning a major pharmaceutical product withdrawn from the market, essentially ending the litigation in Texas.
  • Representing major international pharmaceutical and medical device company in national mass tort litigation involving combined oral contraceptives, including being selected as lead trial lawyer for first case in Philadelphia.
  • Representing a major international pharmaceutical company in the first Baycol statin case to be tried in the country, and winning a complete defense verdict in Corpus Christi, Texas.
  • Representing a major international oil and chemical company as co-lead trial counsel in a silicosis and asbestosis case involving alleged personal injuries and death. The client received a complete defense verdict in Beaumont, Texas.
  • Representing a major international pharmaceutical company as lead trial counsel in the first Vioxx case to be tried in the country, resulting in a complete defense judgment after appeals, including plaintiff’s appeal to the United States Supreme Court.
  • Obtaining summary judgment for a leading pharmaceutical company in a class action based on claims of defective OTC products.
  • Representing international pharmaceutical company in defense of diabetes therapy alleged to cause bladder cancer in national litigation involving 6000+ cases.
  • Representing a major medical device manufacturer in the first latex glove trial in Texas, one of the first latex cases tried in the country, which she tried in Jefferson County as co-lead counsel.

Employment

Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Lowry practiced with the firm of Fulbright & Jaworski, and is a retired partner with Norton, Rose Fulbright US LLP.

Education

Ms. Lowry received her J.D. from the University of Houston College of Law in 1984, magna cum laude, where she was an Associate Editor of the Houston Law Review.  She received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Houston.

Bar admissions and activities

Ms. Lowry was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1984. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas.

She was recognized by Law 360 as a Trial Ace (top 50 litigators in the U.S.), Portfolio Media, Inc., 2015.

She was also recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, Best Lawyers, 2006-2019.
